Big Basket, Grofers, Medlife are hiring to handle the heavy demand during this COVID-19 epidemic situation

Companies like Grofers, Big Basket, MedLife are on a hiring spree to handle the heavy demand they face in the current situation. These online grocery stores and pharmacies need manpower to fulfill the deliveries of the necessary items during the lockdown.

They are planning to hire the idle staff of all the restaurants and are relying on the job portals for the hiring. Recently, Releski jobs have sent out a message to all the restaurant workers saying, “India’s biggest grocery and online stores need drivers to fulfill the requests. Pick up your phone and contact us quickly.” It is a website that connects restaurants, hospitality and retail sectors staff with job seekers.

According to the message, BigBasket, Grofers, MedLife, StarQucik needs drivers and pickers for both part-time and full-time opportunities. These businesses are planning to hire more than 800 riders and are offering Rs.50 per each delivery. Also, they need 500 packers with salaries starting from Rs.16,800 per month. Once they are selected, these companies will offer them the curfew passes for hassle-free operations.

Amit Roy, Management Committee member of the National Restaurant Association of India has stated that they want to take care of the daily needs of the workers who are out of job currently. But taking up these jobs in online groceries and pharmacies is completely voluntary from the side of daily workers. Recently, BigBasket has partnered with the NRAI and Retail Association of India in offering jobs to the workers who lost their jobs due to the corona lockdown.

Along with these, companies like Amazon, Dunzo, Flipkart, Jumbotail are hiring on-ground staff after most of their immigrant workers have returned to their states due to the lockdown. According to a survey in ET, 80-90% of the staff belonging to these e-commerce firms could not appear for the job either due to less mobility from their native places or due to police harassment.
